A Brief History of Orthodontics
Did you know braces have been used since Egyptian times? Archaeologists discovered evidence of braces on mummies and later similar findings were made with the Greeks and Romans. Back then the methods were basic and primitive. But the idea was there and it seems to have worked.
What would the Egyptians say if they could see braces these days that have clear brackets and wire the color of teeth so the braces are almost invisible?
Since those times dentistry has evolved in leaps and bounds and we are so lucky to have modern technology available to us today.
Even 20 years ago patients had to wear huge silver brackets and wire with rubber bands. Today children and young adults wear less bulky braces, but more effective and come in colors that are not so striking. The feel is more comfortable and the look is more subtle. The whole experience of wearing braces is much better than it was in the past. Digital advancements have also made the whole process of getting braces much more pleasant and efficient.
