How to chose the right toothbrush with so many options available?
Using the right toothbrush to clean your teeth and gums is important so you can have optimum oral health. But it can be confusing choosing the right toothbrush with so many options available.
Choose a brush with soft to medium-sized round bristles so you can gently brush, wash and massage your teeth and gums. A hard-bristled brush can be harsh on the gums and even damage the tooth enamel. Your brushing technique is as essential as having the right brush. Use sweeping circular motions to clean your mouth with firm but gentle pressure. Take your time to clean all your teeth, your gums and finally your tongue.
The toothbrush head needs to be the right size to fit in your mouth and reach every surface of your teeth including the back ones. The handle should be comfortable to grasp.
Invest in a brand-named toothbrush so you know the quality is good. Avoid no-name toothbrushes that are cheap and possibly the quality is low.
For children buy bright colors or even themed-brushes so they will have fun cleaning their teeth. There are special child-sized toothbrushes on the market for toddlers through to teens with matching toothpaste.
You might be wondering if an electric toothbrush is a good option for cleaning your teeth. Research shows electric toothbrushes don’t clean teeth any more efficiently than traditional toothbrushes. But they can be great for the elderly or anyone who has trouble holding a normal toothbrush. Or you might just find you prefer the electric version.
Never share your toothbrush with anyone, even family members. Replace your toothbrush every 3 months or sooner if it looks worn out. Don’t forget to add the dental floss, toothpaste and mouth wash to your shopping basket.
