Oral Hygiene

Orthodontics Treatment

Routine visits to your local SmilePerfectors center is essential for anyone looking to maintain oral health.

Brush Regularly

Regular brushing is the foundation of a vibrant and healthy smile! Brushing after meals, or at least twice a day, can help remove damaging plaque that can build up on and in between your teeth. It is essential to diligently brush with a high-quality toothbrush and fluoride-based toothpaste. A good toothbrush will effectively remove food and plaque from all tooth surfaces, and fluoride-based toothpaste provides enamel protection.

Floss Regularly

Flossing is especially helpful in cleaning areas between teeth that regular brushing cannot reach.

Rinse Regularly

Rinsing after meals is a simple and effective way of removing left over food particles that can remain on your teeth. A good rule of thumb is to rinse before brushing, as this loosens the particles in your mouth, followed by brushing with protective fluoride-based toothpaste.

Salt water is a commonly used, dentist-recommended oral rinsing solution known for its healing properties. The saline present in salt water can aid in healing inflammation from an extracted tooth or mouth sores. However, salt water is not recommended for daily rinsing, as this can eventually wear down the enamel on your teeth.

Perform Personal Oral Exams

Another quick and simple oral hygiene habit is personal oral examinations. While standing in front of a mirror, take your index finger and rub it along your gum line, tooth surface and the back of your teeth. If you notice anything that stands out, such as a discoloration of gum tissue or a broken tooth, promptly contact your local SmilePerfectors for an appointment.
